2005 Riesling in the Top Ten at the Hyatt International Riesling Challenge 2006

What a wine! Always a perennial favourite in the family, now some respected wine critics have endorsed what we knew all along!

Our 2005 Riesling has been awarded a Silver Medal and a place in the top Ten New Zealand Rieslings by the prestigious Hyatt International Riesling Challenge 2006.

Competition details:
All styles of wine were well represented with 458 wines from around the world. It is becoming a truly international competition with over 100 wines from Europe and a growing number from North America. As well as our traditional friends from New Zealand, the Southern Hemisphere representatives were joined for the first time by South Africa.

Wines across the vintages showed the wonder of the Riesling variety, and why we can hold a competition dedicated only to it.

The 2006 wines were arguably the Best Current Vintage classes that we have yet seen at the Challenge. The top wines represented a range of styles, but all showed great attention to detail and finesse. Equally as strong were the Open Classes – some wines still very fresh while others were just starting to show some bottle development. As usual the Museum Classes were excellent, with a range of vintages represented. This class is showing the benefits of the screw cap closure, with more entries as producers become confident to hold wines back for future release.
