Vineyards

Clifford Bay produces fine wines from our own and several premium vineyards situated within the Awatere Valley sub region of Marlborough, New Zealand.

Since establishing our own vineyard on the banks of the Awatere River in 1994, we have both purchased additional land and established long term relationships with several growers in the Valley to meet market demand.

In selecting our growers we have found like-minded people who strive to produce top quality fruit that will allow us to continue to produce exceptional wines.

11 Hectares (27 Acres) planted in Sauvignon Blanc, 2 Hectares (5 acres) Riesling and 4.4 Hectares (11 acres) Chardonnay vines.

A further 4 Hectares (10 acres) recently purchased from a neighbour is scheduled for development in 2007.

In 2005 a joint venture deal was struck between Geoff and Lea Swift and Clifford Bay . Geoff and Lea’s property borders our own vineyard in the Lower Dashwood area of the Awatere Valley.

9.5 Hectares (24 Acres) planted in Sauvignon Blanc, 2.8 Hectares (7 acres) in Pinot Noir vines.

Francis and Claire Hammond established their vineyard in the Awatere Valley in 2001. A further 6 hectares (15 acres) is being planted in Sauvignon Blanc in 2006.

Steve Pellett and Bridget Ennals, along with their enthusiastic young son Xavier, established their vineyard in the Lower Dashwood area of the Awatere Valley in 2004

Steve Riley and Leslie Hamersley established their vineyard in the Lower Dashwood area of the Awatere Valley in 2004. Steve and Leslie are neighbours and good friends of Steve and Bridget.

6.5 Hectares (16 Acres) planted in Sauvignon Blanc vines.

Richard and Chris May established their vineyard in 2004 and enjoyed their first harvest in 2006. Richard and Chris’ property is located a short distance from our vineyard in the Lower Dashwood area of the Awatere Valley. A further 5 acres is being planted in Sauvignon Blanc in 2006.

4 Hectares (10 Acres) planted in Riesling vines.

Terry and Julie established their vineyard in the Awatere Valley in 2004 and enjoyed their first harvest in 2006. A further 5 acres of Sauvignon Blanc has been planted, first harvest expected 2007.
